What it is for

Lowndes Park is Chesham's flagship park, it is situated on the main road through Chesham and includes various different elements including a fenced playpark. The playpark was installed in 2009 and is now old and tired. The current playpark includes elements for the younger age group and so for the time being will remain in situ. The new playground is to be built below the existing park The work will consist of: • Detailed designs for the playground, including drawings and specifications; • Obtaining all necessary permissions, licences and approvals to undertake the work; • Installing the new play equipment and surfacing; • Installing benches and bins; • Associated landscaping Design requirements Play equipment must include: • Multiple swings • Monkey bars and climbing balancing zones • Wow element with height like slide or tower • Equipment encouraging multi use and imagination rather than a single play offering, e.g. climber stack or web. • Hide-aways to encourage imaginative play • Accessible piece of equipment • Stone rubbings or other history/culture/investigation elements • Mounds with tunnels and natural play using the topography of the park Play equipment must: • Be reflective of a destination park with a sense of design and story, capturing local heritage and community. • Be predominantly timber and as natural in appearance as possible; • Be durable (including at least a 25 year warranty on steel and 15 year warranty on all timber and other materials) with parts easily maintained and replaced. Particular attention should be given to the structure and mechanism of any swings; • Be challenging for the target age range; • Be as accessible and inclusive as possible enabling children of all abilities to play alongside each other,…
