Two public registers, side by side: every contract award a UK public body has published, and every donation declared to a political party or an individual MP. Both are official, both are open data, and neither is easy to read where it is published.

The largest entries are usually framework agreements: a ceiling that many public bodies may spend against over several years, sometimes shared between hundreds of suppliers, not a cheque written to one company. What this does not show
Contract awards are not the same as total public spending — day-to-day departmental spend, benefits, pay and debt interest never appear as a contract award, and Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland publish most of their procurement on their own portals.
