What it is for

Newcastle City Council is planning to review and where necessary to refresh its Charter which has not been reviewed for approximately 5 years. In December 2023, Officers began to review the Charter to ensure it is up to date, accurately reflects the council's structures and clearly sets out how these are administered. The Council is now moving forward to a targeted, detailed review. The aim is to ensure its structures and practice are that of a modern organisation, improving the democratic process by ensuring decision-making and participation is effective and efficient and works best for elected members, officers and, most importantly, residents. The objective of this to provide independent expertise and knowledge on good practice to robustly test the council's structures and processes and make informed, impartial and objective recommendations.
