What it is for

The Council is procuring a contract to undertake section of the pedestrian Guard Rail replacement over the pumping station wall at West Tower Street Bridge. West Tower Street Bridge carries the A595 County Road (Castle Way) across West Tower Street in Carlisle. A general breakdown of the protective paint system on the existing pedestrian Guard Rail has led to various instances of severe corrosion of the steelwork. As a result, replacing the section of the pedestrian Guard Rail under the bridge is necessary. The work includes the design and replacement of, approximately, 80m of pedestrian guardrail above the Pumping Station under the West Tower Street Bridge. In 2023, the 4 number posts above the Pumping Station were temporarily repaired. The project is to be let as a Build contract with the contractor designed elements set out in appendix 1/10 of the specification
