What it is for

Defra have provided funding to the Environment Agency (the Authority) to help improve agricultural representation in regional water resources plans. The Environment Agency contracted WSP to create a Supply-Demand-Balance-Assessment (SDBA) tool to calculate the surplus or deficit in a catchment for agricultural water use. This has a baseline (current position) and future projections to 2050 which includes effects of climate and socio-economic change. This has been tested on 5 catchments across England. This tool can now be used to undertake supply-demand balance assessments at catchment scale.
